Spring has sprung! As soon as the sun comes out, even if it’s still chilly and the rain is never ending, I feel the need to wear some cheerful spring colours.
I am loving wearing my Stalf battenburg cocoon trousers to work every week, less so those mushroom coloured linen trousers, I think I’ll relegate them to wearing at home.
The quilted down jacket, I am wearing in the last photo, I picked up in the charity shop for the bargain price of £1.29. It was too snug round my hips, but plenty big enough elsewhere, to wear a jumper underneath. I unpicked the seams below the pockets and finished them on the inside with some navy blue petersham. It is such a lovely lightweight and warm jacket, I’ve worn it a lot. The long term plan is to shorten it. This will involve removing the zip to move it up. It is quite tricky getting a zip back in neatly.
I found this brand new Marks and Spencer standard tee shirt in the charity shop for £1.99. Just the colour I had been looking for, to wear under my blue linen overshirt. I chopped 4 inches off the bottom, removed the neck band, overlocked and hand hemmed the neck edge and rolled up the sleeves. Much better!
I have added up all my logged clothing wears of the winter. It’s a really useful exercise really getting to know what I really wear. Sweatpants feature heavily in my winter wardrobe along with layers of wool jumpers. Despite my efforts to wear skirts more, I still gravitate to trousers it seems.
The skirt experiment has been useful, I made the 3 linen skirts with fabric I already owned. Now I would like just one skirt, perhaps in an Indian block print or a nice chambray, that goes with everything. I am very happy with the style of my skirts with the shaped/extended waistband and gathered skirt. I shall look out for second hand fabric.
I love to see the Magnolia flowers in Spring, my Mum sent me this photo.
Are you still in your winter woolies? or have you too, felt the need for something bright and cheerful?
